Something's changing – Let's Go GOPING!
Pollution caused by cigarette butts is a huge problem for the environment and literally toxic. But through the need to find a way to stop ecological harm, the need for a major change is also born.
GOPING was born as part of the vision for a positive change.
What is GOPING?
It is a dynamic collection and recycling platform for cigarettes and butts. Polygreen, a modem, fast growing company, aims at the promotion of new, responsible and sustainable practices, starting with the collection of cigarette butts and ending with their recycling. For the collection process we cooperate with a number of companies on organized beaches in Attica, Greece. The GOPING project is ambitious, inspiring and realistic. Our main objective is to limit the uncontrolled waste disposal in public places, to raise public environmental awareness, as we want to achieve tangible results for the benefit of the environment.
What does GOPING stand for?
The idea behind the name came through the need to act against the cigarette butt. GOPING comes out of the "goping", i.e. the butts collection in the military. So we chose to make a pun that could develop into a slogan: the English word Go along with the word ping that has a musicality, represent a call to action but also create awareness in the world about the battle against the butt.
We believe in action. Action needs encouragement as well as a slogan.
Let’s go GOPING!
How is the GOPING collection done?
It all starts with good mood and a desire to react.
The recycling process we have is simple and efficient. We make sure that our partners in beach bars have our specially designed ashtrays. Then, the beach bars provide the ashtrays to their customers to use as long as they enjoy their stay by the sea. Thus, the cigarette butts of those who smoke will not end up buried in the sand or around the sunbeds and will not swim with us in the sea. At the same time, we provide beach bars with special recycling bins. Then we collect all the cigarettes and butts and recycle them.
How are cigarette butts being recycled?
The collection and proper management of the butts is done by Polygreen, a completely integrated waste management company that uses innovative methods and cutting-edge technologies for their intelligent management. All cigarette butts after collection go through special treatment. Ash, smoke and paper are driven to management to produce compost. The filter, which is essentially plastic material, is processed through mechanical recycling and produces recycled 'A material, which can be used as new construction material for various products.
What can GOPING achieve?
We know we can achieve a lot. Change starts with one butt at a time.
We know that a small ripple can bring waves and currents of change.
We believe in the butterfly phenomenon: according to the theory if a butterfly moves its wings in the Amazon it can bring rain to China.
An infinitesimal change in the flow of events of a system is sufficient to cause a different evolution and a drastic change in the environment.
We believe in it. We're making it happen. It takes a change for the project to succeed.
Our vision is a garbage-free environment, focusing on eliminating urban and industrial waste.
The goals we want to achieve are clear as our vision:
Limitation of the uncontrolled cigarette butts disposal in public places.
Cleaning, collection and recycling of cigarettes and butts.
Promoting circular economy
Environmental awareness and awareness.
So why GOPING?
Because every big change starts with small but substantial changes in our habits.
Because it is not enough to limit the number of butts that end up in seas and coasts.
Because it is time to put into operation an alternative and "green" way of managing cigarette butts, so that part of them can be turned into a source of raw material.
Because the environment needs a campaign of love from all of us. We need nothing more than small changes in some of our habits.
Because these small changes will lead to a big change of mindset that will benefit the environment and ultimately ourselves.
Because each of us can leave a smaller footprint in nature and contribute substantially to a sustainable and balanced ecosystem.
Because every year 19-38% of total waste collected worldwide during coastal cleaning, is cigarette butts!
For many decades we have all been part of a major problem for the environment and the ecosystem. It is time for us all to become part of the solution individually.
The secret of change?
