Polygreen has been named one of the first six companies worldwide to receive Expo City Dubai's new Expo Green Licence, the UAE's first business licence built specifically for verified sustainability operators. The recognition also means Polygreen will operate from within Expo City's Green Innovation District going forward.
The Expo Green Licence is not awarded on stated ambition. It combines certification, business licensing and membership in Expo City Dubai's sustainability ecosystem, and is granted only to companies with a demonstrated operational track record in circular economy delivery.
Expo City Dubai, in partnership with the UAE Ministry of Economy and Tourism, has designated itself the UAE's first Green Innovation District, a dedicated ecosystem for companies developing products, services and technologies that reduce environmental impact while remaining commercially viable.
The licence launched on 3 July 2026, marking the official recognition of its first cohort of six companies globally, spanning climate technology, carbon services and circular economy delivery. The launch was presided over by H.E. Abdulla Bin Touq Al Marri, UAE Minister of Economy and Tourism, underlining that the initiative carries the weight of UAE national economic policy rather than a city-level programme alone.
Being named among the first six global recipients validates Polygreen's operational history in circular economy delivery on an international stage. The recognition was also decisive in Polygreen's decision to relocate its headquarters to Dubai, UAE, placing the company within Expo City Dubai's Green Innovation District, a purpose-built ecosystem for sustainability-led businesses at the centre of the UAE's economic development.
Speaking on the recognition, Athanasios Polychronopoulos, Chairman of Polygreen, said:
"Polygreen is a pioneering company in circular economy solutions, and we are worldwide known for creating the first zero waste island. We do a lot of things, especially in the sector of hazardous waste management. The Green Licence at Expo City Dubai is the reason why we decided to bring our headquarters here to Dubai, UAE, because of the mentality of Expo City Dubai and the macroeconomic mentality of the UAE."
