On Wednesday 15/02/2023 at the Technical University of Crete, an emotional event was held in honor of our esteemed colleague Panagiotis Manolopoulos, Chemical Engineer and graduate of the University’s School of Chemical and Environmental Engineering Master Program, whose name was given to room K2.A1 of the School of Chemical Engineering.

As a tribute to Panagiotis Manolopoulos, who for 11 consecutive years worked with zeal and contributed significantly to the development of the company, Polygreen announced the founding of the “Panagiotis Manolopoulos Scholarship”, to be granted annually. The scholarship will be awarded at the end of each year to a graduate of the Graduate Program of the School of Chemical and Environmental Engineering.

The event was attended by his partner, parents and several of his colleagues. The ceremony began with opening remarks and greeting given by the Provost of the Technical University of Crete, Professor Michalis Zervakis, as well as the Dean of the School of Chemistry, Professor Dionysis Kolokosta, followed by moving speeches from his professors, who referred to his charismatic character and love for science and the environment.

In turn, Mr. Athanasios Polychronopoulos, Founder and President of Polygreen, thanked the representatives of the University for accepting the company’s proposal to grant the annual scholarship “Panagiotis Manolopoulos” and then spoke about Panagiotis Manolopoulos’ work and contribution to the company. Addressing the students who were present, he said: “Panagiotis Manolopoulos was one of you; he completed his master’s degree in these departments. He was an important man with an exceptional talent. His kindness, talent and humor opened many doors. He always put people first. In the villages of Africa where he went to carry out the company’s hazardous waste management projects, he would often stop working and go play with the suffering children of those poor countries, so as to bring them some joy. He was a unique asset for the company which has not been replaced. It is something quite difficult in the business field to find such partners, and we consider it our duty to honor him, even with this small gesture.”

Two videos featuring him from PCAI’s corporate collection were also viewed during the ceremony. The event concluded with the unveiling of the “Panagiotis Manolopoulos Hall” sign.
